The Office of Film and Literature Classification is the Government body responsible for classifying publications that may need to be restricted or banned. The legal definition of a 'publication' covers a wide range of mediums such as films, videos, music recordings, books, magazines and computer games.
OUR VISION
New Zealand society is protected from the harm caused by the unrestricted availability of restricted and objectionable publications.
We will achieve this by balancing the values inherent in the freedom of expression with the value of a society protected from injury.

STRUCTURE AND STAFF
The Classification Office is an organisation that employs 35 permanent staff in its Classification Unit, Corporate Services Unit, Information Unit and Registry.
