DVD-Slick Resource for Video Retailers

The Classification Office has produced a DVD-slick resource for display in shops and libraries where DVDs are sold or hired. This 'slick' is designed to go in empty cases and be placed around the store/library.

The intention of the slick is to remind customers to consider the classification labels on the DVDs they are thinking of purchasing or hiring for themselves or younger people.

Three different designs are available, each with a different message about the classification labels which appear on DVDs, movies, and videos in New Zealand.

The 'Proceed with Caution' slick reminds adults that not all PG films are suitable for young children, and that they may want to find out more about the film before they show it to children.

The second slick asks people considering an M-rated DVD to 'Think before you show this to kids under 16'. The M classification is the one that confuses a lot of people and the content you find in an M film can vary greatly (think about the dfference between Harry Potter and The Dark Knight).

The red slick is targeted at adults looking at hiring or renting restricted DVDs and reminds them 'Stop! Red labels are legal restrictions'. It points out that underage people are not allowed restricted movies even if they have a parent or guardian with them.

Each slick has the details of the Office of Film and Literature Classification on the back, so that people know who to contact if they have further questions.

Retailers/librarians are encouraged to print off PDFs of these slicks for display in their stores. You can also contact the Information Unit for a free CD-ROM which contains the PDFs.
